Early starts sell well from Krabi, and Krabi Ezy Trails’ Phi Phi Early Bird & 4 Islands is the best-selling Phi Phi tour from Krabi on GetYourGuide, rated 4.9 from 3,568 reviews. It was $79 per person for 9 November 2026. The van collects you in Ao Nang, Klong Muang or Tubkaek between 05:50 and 06:30 (Railay guests board at about 07:00), you have coffee on the Tup Island sandbar, an hour at Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon and a snorkel stop, lunch on Bamboo Island, then Chicken Island and Ko Poda before you are back at the pier by about 15:45 to 16:00. The standard Phi Phi Speedboat Tour with Lunch was $50 on the same date. Our review →

What the extra $29 buys
It buys three things. You reach Maya Bay earlier, before the main mid-morning wave of boats. You get a longer day with the Krabi 4 Islands added: the sandbar at Tup, the rock shaped like a chicken’s head, and the long beach at Ko Poda, close to Ao Nang. And the boat carries at most 30 people, which is fewer than some budget tours.
You also finish earlier. Back at the pier by about 4 pm leaves the evening free, which suits a lot of people better than a 5 pm return.
The real start times
The early starts differ by tour and by where you stay:
| Tour | Pickup | First stop | Price, Nov 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phi Phi Early Bird & 4 Islands | 05:50 to 06:30; Railay about 07:00 | Tup Island coffee, then Maya Bay | $79 |
| Early Bird Maya Bay & 4 Islands | 06:00 to 06:30, breakfast box | Railay East pier, then 40 min to Maya Bay | $74 |
| Phi Phi Sunrise & Shark Nursery | 06:00 to 06:45 | Tup Island, then Maya Bay for 1 hour | $74 |
| Semi-Private Phi Phi & Early Maya Bay | Meet 8:00 in Ao Nang | Maya Bay | $116 |
Sunrise in Krabi is about 06:15 in November and about 06:40 in January, so on the earliest pickups it is still dark or just getting light when the van comes. Maya Bay opens at roughly 7 am, not at dawn. The “sunrise” on these tours happens at sea or on the sandbar, and Maya Bay comes after it, early in its opening hours.
What you give up
Sleep, mostly. A 05:50 pickup means a 5 am alarm, and you are on a speedboat for most of the next nine hours. If you have a late flight the night before or small children who need their mornings, that matters more than the $29.
You also lose the Phi Phi Don stop. The early bird eats on Bamboo Island and skips Tonsai, which some people like and some miss. And the 4 Islands part of the afternoon is pleasant but less dramatic than Phi Phi Leh; if you have already done a Krabi 4 Islands tour, you are paying partly for a repeat.
The listings set firmer limits than the standard tours too. Krabi Ezy Trails does not take children under 3, pregnant travelers, anyone over 70 or over 130 kg, or anyone with heart or back problems, and the tour needs a minimum number of guests to run (you get a new date or a full refund if it doesn’t).
Is it less crowded?
Less crowded, yes; empty, no. Maya Bay runs landing rounds from about 7 am of up to an hour each, capped at about 375 people a round, and early boats from Krabi, Phuket and Phi Phi Don all aim for the first ones. Arriving early helps because the standard Krabi and Phuket tours tend to arrive from mid-morning onwards.
The low-star reviews say the same thing from the other side. On the Krabi Ezy Trails tour they mention a “mass-market” feel, about an hour at Maya Bay that felt rushed, crowds despite the early start, rain on some days, and one report of suspected food poisoning after the buffet. On Sea Eagle’s early bird, a few reviewers felt the “beat the crowds” promise was not delivered and the boat was packed, and one complained of no coffee before the start. These are a small share of thousands of reviews: 17 at one to three stars on the Krabi Ezy Trails tour, out of 3,568.
If you want a quieter Maya Bay, an early bird improves your chances, and a smaller boat improves them more. Thalassa’s semi-private tour meets at 8:00, visits Maya first with fewer people, and includes the park fee.
Which early bird?
For most people I would book the Phi Phi Early Bird & 4 Islands: it has by far the longest track record, 4.9 from 3,568 reviews, and a 30-person cap. Sea Eagle’s Early Bird Maya Bay & 4 Islands is $5 cheaper at $74, picks up in Krabi Town too, and is rated 4.7 from 996, on a boat with 30 to 40 seats. The Phi Phi Sunrise & Shark Nursery, also $74 and 4.9 from 52 reviews, adds a snorkel at a blacktip reef shark nursery but does not pick up on Railay. Our early bird page compares them in more detail.
Who should stick with the standard tour
The standard day may suit you better if you are travelling with young children, if a 5 am alarm would spoil the day, if you have already seen the Krabi 4 Islands, or if you want the lunch stop on Phi Phi Don. At $50 the Phi Phi Speedboat Tour with Lunch covers the same Phi Phi sights. Is the standard tour worth it? looks at that day, and the price guide sets out every tier.
If the early start is fine and Maya Bay is the reason you are going, I think the extra $29 makes sense. To see dates for the early bird, check availability.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Phi Phi early bird tour worth it?
For most people who can manage a pickup between 05:50 and 06:30, yes. It cost $29 more than a standard tour on the dates we checked in November 2026, reaches Maya Bay earlier, adds the Krabi 4 Islands and finishes by about 4 pm.
What time does the Phi Phi early bird pick up?
Between 05:50 and 06:30 from Ao Nang, Klong Muang and Tubkaek on the Krabi Ezy Trails tour, and about 07:00 at Railay. Sea Eagle’s early bird picks up from 06:00 to 06:30.
Do you see the sunrise at Maya Bay?
No. Maya Bay opens at roughly 7 am, after sunrise. Early birds reach it early in its opening hours, and any sunrise you see is from the boat or the Tup Island sandbar.
What is the difference between the early bird and a regular Phi Phi tour?
An earlier start, an earlier Maya Bay visit, the Krabi 4 Islands in the afternoon, lunch on Bamboo Island instead of Phi Phi Don, and a return by about 4 pm. It costs about $24 to $29 more.
Is the early bird less crowded?
At Maya Bay, usually less crowded than mid-morning, but not empty. Boats from Krabi, Phuket and Phi Phi Don all aim for the early landing rounds.
