Our pick for Krabi Town: Andaman Wave Master's ferry from Klong Jilad pier to Tonsai or Laem Tong, with an air-conditioned cabin, a sundeck and room for luggage. The ticket works on either of the two daily sailings.

The Experience

Our Pick: Klong Jilad to Phi Phi Ferry

About 2 hours to Tonsai pier, an air-conditioned cabin or the sundeck, and a ticket you can switch between the two daily sailings.

  • Views of Chicken Island and Poda Island on the crossing
  • Sundeck seats for the sea views, with an air-conditioned cabin when it gets hot
  • A ticket that works on either daily sailing if your plans shift
  • Choice of Tonsai Pier or Laem Tong beach on Phi Phi Don
  • The same route back from Phi Phi to Krabi Town

What's Included

  • One-way ferry ticket, Klong Jilad Pier to Tonsai Pier (Laem Tong is its own option)
  • Seat on a large passenger ferry with cabin and sundeck
  • Luggage room on board
  • Crossing of about 2 hours (1.5 to 3 hours depending on the sea)
  • Host or greeter speaking Thai and English
  • Hotel pickup, only on the option that includes it

How the Krabi Ferry Works

Four things to sort before you travel.

  1. Choose Tonsai or Laem Tong

Most people get off at Tonsai pier, the main pier on Phi Phi Don. Laem Tong, at the island's northern end, is a separate, pricier option.

  2. Add hotel pickup if you need it

The basic ticket has no transfer to Klong Jilad pier. An option on the same listing adds hotel pickup for a few dollars more.

  3. Arrive before boarding

Seatran asks passengers to check in 30 minutes before departure; allow the same for this ferry. The ticket works on either of the two daily sailings.

  4. Keep 20 THB for Tonsai pier

Phi Phi Don charges a small entrance fee per person at Tonsai pier. It is not in the ferry price, so have cash ready when you land.

Ferries and a Speedboat From Krabi to Phi Phi

Two ferries from Krabi Town, a speedboat and a ferry from the Ao Nang side. All land at Tonsai pier, where Phi Phi Don charges 20 THB per person.

Times, Luggage, Fees and Whether You Need a Ferry at All

The ferry from Krabi to Phi Phi leaves from Klong Jilad pier in Krabi Town and takes about 2 hours to Tonsai pier on Phi Phi Don. Our pick is Andaman Wave Master’s Klong Jilad to Phi Phi ferry: $14.60 per person on 8 November 2026, 4.4 from 145 reviews, with an air-conditioned cabin, a sundeck and room for luggage. If you are staying in Ao Nang, the pier is about half an hour away by road, and the Ao Nang ferry and speedboat will usually suit you better. Our review →

The two ferries from Klong Jilad

The Andaman Wave Master ticket goes to Tonsai pier, or to Laem Tong at the northern end of Phi Phi Don for $23.84. It runs twice a day, and the ticket can be used on either sailing. The basic ticket has no transfer; an option with hotel pickup was $18.77. Wheelchair users can reach only the ground floor of the boat.

Seatran Discovery’s Krabi to Phi Phi Don ferry covers the same route to Tonsai pier in a large air-conditioned ferry, also in about 2 hours. It was $14.90 on 8 November, with 4.4 from 125 reviews, and travel insurance is included. Check in at the pier counter at least 30 minutes before departure.

Schedule and crossing time

Neither listing prints its departure times; they appear when you choose a date. Counting all the companies that use Klong Jilad, ferry booking sites show roughly four or five sailings a day in high season, with fewer from about July to September. Times change with the season, so go by the time on your booking.

About 2 hours is the usual crossing. Andaman Wave Master gives a range of 1.5 to 3 hours and warns that sea and weather can change both departure time and duration, so leave slack before a flight on the way back.

Luggage and fees

The Andaman Wave Master ferry has a luggage room, so a suitcase is no problem. Neither listing states a weight limit, so ask the operator if you are carrying something large, such as a dive bag or a surfboard.

When you land at Tonsai, Phi Phi Don charges a 20 THB per person entrance fee at the end of the pier. It is not in the ferry price on either ticket, so keep some small notes handy.

Low reviews of both ferries describe the same things on busy sailings: crowding, too few seats, a hot cabin or weak air conditioning, and on Seatran one complaint about dirty bathrooms.

From Ao Nang instead

Lanta Tourist Center’s Ao Nang to Phi Phi ferry leaves from Nopparat Thara pier, also takes about 2 hours, and includes pickup from Ao Nang hotels between 08:00 and 09:00. It was $27.68 on 9 November, but it has only nine reviews. Railay Eco Tour’s speedboat transfer from Ao Nam Mao pier, via Railay, reaches Phi Phi in about 50 to 70 minutes for $30. Both are covered in detail on our Ao Nang to Phi Phi page.

Ferry or day tour?

Take the ferry if you are moving to Phi Phi Don to stay. It lands you at Tonsai pier with your bags, and that is all it does: no Maya Bay, no Pileh Lagoon, no snorkeling stops.

If you want to see Phi Phi and sleep in Krabi again, a day tour is easier. It costs about $50, against about $30 for two ferry tickets, and the boat takes you to the places the ferry does not. The Phi Phi Speedboat Tour with Lunch was $50, collects from Krabi Town hotels for free, and covers Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave, Monkey Beach, lunch on Phi Phi Don and Bamboo Island between 9:00 and 17:00. The national park fee of 400 THB per adult is extra and paid in cash. Our review →

Ratings and review counts are the tour operators' live figures on GetYourGuide and may shift slightly day to day.

"Beautiful and super chill!! Was stormy but I don’t mind the choppiness <3"

Sophie

"Well organized, on time, aircon interior, but also access to outdoor areas too."

GetYourGuide traveler

"Great trip! We enjoyed the scenery from outside and the captain was friendly."

Jolene

"easy to use, calm crossing and a seamless transfer to our hotel by a very nice driver."

Mark

"Transport with the ferry worked without any problems. Everthing alright. Only the transfer to the hotel was a little chaotic."

Florian

"Very easy to board and we set off on time. Plenty of comfortable seating and space for luggage. The journey took longer than advertised though, around 2 hours 10 minutes. There were taxi drivers at the pier in Krabi and we got a ride to Ao Nang beach for 400 THB (maybe that was overpaying but it was easy)."
