How the Catamaran Day Works

A late-finishing day, in four parts.

  1. Choose pickup, meet-up or Railay

Hotel pickup in Krabi, meeting at the pier, or boarding at Railay East Blue Pier were all the same price on the dates we checked. Railay guests wait at the end of the pier.

  2. Bamboo Island first

The catamaran leaves a private pier in Ao Nang, collects guests at Railay and heads to Bamboo Island, with about 105 minutes to swim and snorkel.

  3. Phi Phi from lunch onward

Thai buffet lunch at Arida on Phi Phi Don, Monkey Beach, Viking Cave and Pileh Lagoon, then Maya Bay from the Loh Samah pier. Bring 400 THB cash for the park fee.

  4. Snorkel, then the sunset stop

A long snorkel stop, then sunset at Tup Island or Poda Island near Krabi with BBQ snacks and fruit, and about an hour back on the catamaran. You are home after dark.

Phi Phi Catamaran Options from Krabi Compared

The sunset catamaran, two daytime tours that sell a catamaran seat, and the sunset speedboat it is often weighed against. The big differences are when you get home and what happens in the evening.

What the Catamaran Day Is Really Like

There is less choice here than the word catamaran suggests. Srisawat’s Phi Phi & 4 Islands Sunset Catamaran is the only dedicated catamaran day from Krabi with a real review history: $74 per person for 9 November 2026 when we checked, 4.7 from 286 reviews. It is a speed catamaran, it runs 9 to 10 hours, and it ends with a sunset stop near Krabi. Two newer catamaran listings have three reviews or fewer. Our review →

If you only want a catamaran for a normal daytime trip, two standard speedboat tours sell a catamaran seat for $74 on the same listing, against $50 for the speedboat.

How the catamaran day runs

The order is reversed compared with most tours. After hotel pickup and a short stop at Railay, the catamaran goes to Bamboo Island first for about 105 minutes, then lunch at Arida on Phi Phi Don (Thai buffet, no pork or beef), Monkey Beach, Viking Cave and Pileh Lagoon. Maya Bay comes in the afternoon, with about an hour from the Loh Samah pier. Then there is a snorkel stop of up to 90 minutes, and the sunset at Tup Island or Poda Island, depending on the sea, with BBQ snacks and fruit on board.

Those islands are part of Krabi’s 4 Islands group, near Ao Nang, not at Phi Phi. Maya Bay closes at about 6 pm, and in November the sun sets just after 6, so no tour from Krabi watches the sunset from Maya Bay. With an hour’s ride back and the van to your hotel, plan on getting home well after dark.

Guests like the crew and the snorkeling. Two recent reviews mention a crew member who swam with them to find baby sharks, and one guest who found Phi Phi itself too crowded still enjoyed the quieter snorkel spots and the buffet. Even a three-star reviewer, tired of the boat hopping, found Poda Island quiet and beautiful.

Cancellations

Two one-star reviews in 2026 describe cancellations: one group says the operator cancelled after taking payment and never told them, and another had the trip cancelled the night before, two days running, so it never happened. A third guest’s trip was cancelled for the boat and the weather. Bad-weather cancellations happen on every Andaman boat, but cancellations without notice are a different problem.

Book it for a day early in your stay so a cancellation leaves you time to rebook, keep your phone on the evening before, and contact GetYourGuide straight away if the trip does not run. The free cancellation window is 24 hours.

The daytime catamaran seats

Krabi Blue Sky’s Phi Phi Speedboat or Catamaran Day sells the catamaran for $74, and its listing says plainly that the catamaran has a toilet and the speedboat does not. That matters on a 7-hour day with children. The route starts at Bamboo Island, then Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave and Monkey Bay, with lunch on Phi Phi Don. It has 4.7 from 64 reviews. Our review →

GR Rungtawan’s Phi Phi Speedboat Tour with Lunch also sells a catamaran seat for $74 on the same day as its $50 speedboat, and its large review base, 4.7 from 1,887, covers both boats. The day runs 9:00 to 17:00 with Maya Bay first. Our review →

Neither listing promises a smoother ride, and the sunset catamaran lists people prone to seasickness among those it is not suitable for, along with non-swimmers.

Which catamaran to book

For a family or anyone who wants a toilet on board, I would book the Krabi Blue Sky catamaran seat. For a long day that finishes at sunset, Srisawat’s catamaran has the better review record of the sunset trips with a catamaran, as long as you can live with the cancellation risk. If the sunset matters more than the boat, Guide Kratae’s sunset tour does the same day by speedboat for $74 with a BBQ dinner on Ko Poda and a plankton swim, and it has 3,067 reviews.
