How a Sunset Day Works
A late start, Phi Phi at midday, and the evening near Krabi.
A late pickup, no 6 am alarm
Pickup runs 09:00 to 09:50 from Ao Nang, Krabi Town, Ao Nam Mao, Klong Muang and Tubkaek hotels near the main road, and the boat leaves Nopparat Thara pier at 10:00. There is no pickup from Railay or Tonsai.
Phi Phi in the middle of the day
Maya Bay via Loh Samah, Viking Cave, Pileh Lagoon and a snorkel off Phi Phi Leh, lunch at Arida on Phi Phi Don, Monkey Bay and Bamboo Island. Bring 400 THB cash per adult for the park fee.
Dinner and sunset on Ko Poda
About 30 minutes back toward Krabi, then 80 minutes on Ko Poda for the BBQ dinner and the sunset, which in November is just after 6 pm.
Plankton swim, then the pier
A 20-minute night swim at Ko Rang, then ten minutes to the pier and the van to your hotel. The plankton shows best on dark, calm nights and is never guaranteed.

Sunset days
Three Phi Phi Sunset Tours from Krabi
Guide Kratae's sunset speedboat, Krabi Blue Sky's later-starting version, and the speed catamaran.
Where it happens
Phi Phi by Day, Sunset near Krabi
A Phi Phi sunset tour from Krabi is a full Phi Phi day with an evening added on the way home. You see Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon and Bamboo Island in daylight, and then the boat comes back toward Ao Nang for dinner and the sunset on Ko Poda, one of Krabi’s 4 Islands, and a plankton swim at Ko Rang. None of the sunset happens at Phi Phi. Maya Bay closes at about 6 pm and the sun sets just after 6 in November, so a sunset on its beach is not possible on any tour.
Guide Kratae’s Phi Phi Sunset, BBQ & Plankton was $74 per person for 10 November 2026 when we checked, with 4.7 from 3,067 reviews. That is $24 more than the standard speedboat day, and the difference buys the dinner, the sunset stop, the night swim and a 10:00 departure in place of an early pickup. Our review →
The Phi Phi part of the day
Leaving Nopparat Thara pier at 10:00 means you reach Maya Bay at around 11, about when most standard boats from Krabi and Phuket are there too. Guests notice. In March one described Maya Bay as the least relaxing place they had been, with guards on megaphones calling people out of the water, and a December reviewer counted 57 people getting on and off the boat every 15 minutes. That busy midday is the trade-off for the late start.
The route covers Maya Bay (45 minutes, no swimming at the front beach), Viking Cave from the boat, Pileh Lagoon, a 45-minute snorkel off Phi Phi Leh, a Thai buffet at Arida on Phi Phi Don, Monkey Bay and 40 minutes on Bamboo Island. The guides, Honey and Ariel in particular, get warm reviews for keeping a big group organized and reassuring nervous passengers on a rough crossing.
The evening near Krabi
After Bamboo Island the boat runs about 30 minutes back toward Krabi to Ko Poda, where you have 80 minutes for the BBQ dinner, a swim and the sunset. This is the part guests remember: “beautiful sunset at Koh Poda,” as one put it in November. Halal and vegetarian meals are available if you ask a day ahead.
The plankton swim is 20 minutes at Ko Rang, ten minutes from the pier. The glow is real but it is not guaranteed: it shows best on dark, moonless, calm nights, so a full moon or choppy water can leave you with very little to see. The return transfer can be a scramble, and one guest described being herded into a crowded truck-style bus for the drive to the hotel.
The tour runs in the rain if the sea is safe, with no refund, and it is not suitable for children under 2, during pregnancy or with back, heart or blood pressure problems.
Two other sunset days
Krabi Blue Sky’s Phi Phi 4 Islands Sunset & Plankton starts later still, with pickup at 10:30 in Krabi Town, Klong Muang and Tubkaek, 11:00 in Ao Nang, and 11:30 at a Railay meeting point, so it is the sunset speedboat that collects Railay guests. After the Phi Phi stops it adds Chicken Island and Tup Island, then dinner and sunset on Ko Poda, and finishes with a snorkel off Ao Nang where the plankton is looked for. Lunch is a lunch box. It was $77, with 4.5 from 217 reviews; complaints include about 50 people on board, Tup Island skipped at high tide, and plankton that was hard to see. It needs six guests to run. Our review →
Srisawat’s Phi Phi & 4 Islands Sunset Catamaran was $74 and does the day on a speed catamaran, with the sunset at Tup or Poda Island and BBQ snacks on board, but no plankton swim. Two 2026 reviews describe cancellations at short notice, which our catamaran page covers. Our review →
Which sunset tour to book
For most people who want the evening, I would book Guide Kratae’s tour: it has by far the larger review base of the three, the dinner is a proper BBQ on the beach, and the plankton stop is part of the route. If you are staying on Railay, Krabi Blue Sky’s version or the catamaran will collect you. If a quiet Maya Bay matters more to you than the sunset, an early bird tour gets you there before the midday boats, and our best time guide covers the calmer months for the sea.

What Guests Say About the Sunset Tour
Ratings and review counts are the tour operators' live figures on GetYourGuide and may shift slightly day to day.
"Ariel and Angie were amazing as well as all of the staff and driver. We had a wonderful time."
"We had the best day out! The stops were all gorgeous, especially Maya Bay and the food for lunch and dinner was delicious. Our guide Honey made the day extra special, she was so informative and fun. We had a bit of bad weather going between islands and Honey was so reassuring and made it feel much less scary! Would definitely recommend as a day trip, well worth the money!"
"Excellent tour with our guide Ariel and her team! We highly recommend this company, beautiful sunset at Koh Poda!"
"exceeded our expectations! increíble. time used for every stop was perfect, very good organization! without any doubt we recommend It."
"Was a fabulous trip! Very well organised. We got to see some stunning islands and the sunset on Poda at the end of the trip was just incredible."
"We had an amazing time on the 7 Islands Sunset Tour! Our guide, Honey, was fantastic—friendly, fun, informative, and always made sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying themselves. The scenery was breathtaking, with beautiful islands, clean beaches, and crystal-clear water. Our personal favourite was the sunset on Poda Island. The snorkeling was a highlight, and we saw many different species of fish and beautiful coral. The food was okay, but the overall experience was excellent and one of the highlights of our trip. Highly recommended!"

Phi Phi Sunset Tour FAQ
Short answers on where the sunset is, the plankton, dinner and getting home.
No. Maya Bay closes at about 6 pm, and in November the sun sets just after 6, so no tour from Krabi has you on the beach at sunset. The sunset tours visit Maya Bay in the day and watch the sunset on Ko Poda or Tup Island near Ao Nang.
The three we compare do. Guide Kratae's tour stops at Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Phi Phi Leh, Phi Phi Don, Monkey Bay and Bamboo Island before heading back toward Krabi for the evening. Check the stop list on any sunset tour before booking, because routes vary by operator.
Near Krabi, not at Phi Phi: at Ko Rang on Guide Kratae's tour, and off Ao Nang on Krabi Blue Sky's. The glow shows best on dark, moonless, calm nights and is never guaranteed; several guests on Krabi Blue Sky's tour saw very little.
After dark, usually in the early evening. Guide Kratae's tour runs about 9.5 hours from a 09:00 to 09:50 pickup, and one guest on Krabi Blue Sky's tour described an 11 am to 7 pm day. Add the drive back to your hotel.
Yes. Guide Kratae serves a BBQ dinner on Ko Poda and Krabi Blue Sky a mini buffet BBQ, both with lunch as well. Srisawat's catamaran has BBQ snacks and fruit at the sunset stop. Ask a day ahead for halal or vegetarian food.
Not Guide Kratae's, which does not collect from Railay or Tonsai. Krabi Blue Sky picks up at a Railay meeting point at 11:30, and Srisawat's catamaran stops at Railay East Blue Pier.
